Internationalization of companies as well as whole economics including regional labour markets has increased in recent years. This trend is mainly demonstrated by migration of skilled specialists. The highly qualified professionals are nowadays seen as aresource for improving the competitiveness and performance efficiency. The governments are aware of this chance and they aim to gain a competitive advantage over other states through creating of selective immigration programs designed to attract these highly skilled human resources. Firstly, the paper introduces tools of migration policy for highly skilled foreigners in terms of the European Union, afterwards continues with an overview and comparison of migration procedures and their effectiveness in the Czech Republic and Germany. From statistics is clear that the volume of highly qualified immigrants participating in single schemes is very low in both examined countries.
