The packing density is characteristics expressing mutual arrangements of fibers in yarn. It is one of basic characteristics of yarn structure, which is necessary for computation of inter-fiber contacts density, yarn porosity and pores size, yarn diameter, optimal yarn twist, yarn shortening caused by twist, yarn compressibility, yarn hardness, etc. Packing density is suitable for internal structure comparison of yarn produced from different raw material or by different technologies. Set of yarns createdfrom modified polyester fibers were investigated in this work. Radial analysis of yarn cross-sections has been used for yarn packing density and porosity evaluation.
