Polyamides are tough, strong, durable fibres useful in a wide range of textile applications. Off the synthetic nonwoven bonded fabrics, polyamide fibres are the first ones to be used since they increase serviceability of the end product prone to frequent folding and thus requiring high resistance to abrasion. The polyamide fibres include nylons and aramid fibres formed from polymers of long-chain polyamides. Nylon is defined as a generic term for any long chain synthetic polymeric amide which has recurring amide groups as an integral part of the main polymer chain and which is capable of being formed into a filament in which the structural elements are oriented in the direction of the axis. It is the generic word used to refer a family of polyamides. Nylon was the first of the “miracle” yarns made entirely from chemical ingredients through the process of polymerization.
