Study of compression behavior of fiber-reinforced sandwich composite
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the compression behavior of sandwich composites. Although, different types of sandwich composites are being developed with aramid fibres as the outer layer, there is no study considering sandwich with knit spacer as the middle layer. This study describes the effect of spacer as middle layer compared to the nonwoven. In this study, 8 different types of sandwich composites were prepared with two different materials as the middle layer and they are Knit spacers and Struto nonwovens. Also, 3 different types of woven Kevlar fabric structures as outer layer were used. Sandwich composites werefabricated using epoxy resin by wet lay-up method under vacuum bagging technique. It was under vacuum for 24 hours at 600bar pressure, followed by curing for 15 hours at 60°C. Compression behavior based on effect of weave type and material of middle layer of these composites were studied using the compression load-strain curves. The results indicated that spacer sandwich composite has better compression behavior than the nonwoven sandwich composite.
