Výběr zahrnuje rozmanitou škálu přístupů, měřítek, míry vstupu současné architektury, privátní i státní projekty, projekty dnes vnímané jako ikonické či iniciační, i poměrně nedávné počiny, některé dokonce ještě před svým dokončením. V kontextu konverze průmyslové architektury připomíná význam udržitelnosti z pohledu životního prostředí i sociologie, rozvoje periferií a urbánní i společenské struktury současného města. Norská vědkyně Grete Swensen přibližuje situaci v Norsku na dvou aktuálních příkladech z pozice etnologie a připomíná roli historické stopy, jejího udržování a pochopení vztahu člověka ke konkrétní lokalitě.

Industrial Topography/Cultural clusters/Czech Republic - Europe
Popis výsledku anglicky
The publication focuses on selected examples of conversions of industrial buildings or entire complexes that have been transformed for the needs of cultural institutions. Forty examples illustrate the situation in the Czech Republic and Europe, with an emphasis on Norway and Iceland. The selection includes a diverse range of approaches, scales, degree of input of contemporary architecture, private and public projects, projects now perceived as iconic or initiatory, and relatively recent ventures, some even before their completion. The actual selection is introduced by essays by theorists who have long been involved in the subject. Architectural historian and curator Dan Merta, as the initiator of the publication and exhibition, has followed this theme in previous projects. In the context of the conversion of industrial architecture, he recalls the importance of sustainability from the perspective of the environment and sociology, the development of peripheries and the urban and social structure of the contemporary city. Benjamin Fragner, the founder and long-time director of the Research Centre for Industrial Heritage at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, summarizes the experience and systematic monitoring of the Czech environment, especially in the last two decades, and evaluates the strategies and success of these transformations of industrial buildings or brownfields in the Czech Republic from the architectural, investor and production perspectives. Architect Petr Kropp, who has extensive personal experience with conversions of industrial architecture into cultural institutions, devoted his contribution to the first or initiating projects, and especially to the development of this trend in the German Ruhr or in the Netherlands, and with regard to landscape architecture to urban planning. The Norwegian scholar Grete Swensen presents the situation in Norway with two recent examples from the position of ethnology, recalling the role of the historical trace, its maintenance and the understanding of the relationship of people to a particular site. Architectural historian Martin Strakoš works at the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava and, as an expert on these realities and the author of many books on Ostrava’s modern architectural history, he introduces readers to specific attitudes and changes in the approach to industrial architecture in the specific environment of a mining town in each decade of the second half of the 20th century and reflects on the influence and significance of the story of the transformation of the Vítkovice site to the recent international acclaim of the Plato Gallery.
