Im Jahr 1645 ließen sich die Jesuiten zunächst im ehemaligen Benediktinerkloster in Skalka bei Trenčín nieder. Innerhalb von zwei Jahren gelang es ihnen, auch in die bis dahin protestantische Stadt Trenčín zu ziehen und dort ein Kloster und anschließend ein Kollegium zu gründen. Im Kloster bauten die Jesuiten eine Bibliothek auf, die durch Schenkungen des Landrats Juraj Ilešházi, der zum katholischen Glauben konvertiert war, erheblich bereichert wurde. Im Zusammenhang mit der Auflösung des Jesuitenordens ist das älteste Verzeichnis der Bibliothek erhalten geblieben. Damit der wertvolle Bestand der Öffentlichkeit dienen konnte, wurde eine Auswahl von Büchern für die Universität Buda getroffen. Im Jahr 1776 übernahm der Piaristenorden mit Zustimmung Maria Theresias das Kloster und die Bibliothek.

In 1645, the Jesuits first settled in a former Benedictine monastery in Skalka near Trenčín. Within two years, they managed to move to the then Protestant town of Trenčín and establish a monastery there, followed by a college. The Jesuits built a library in the monastery, which was significantly enriched by donations from County Governor Juraj Ilešházi when he converted to Catholicism. The oldest inventory of the library has been preserved in connection with the abolition of the Jesuit order. In order for the valuable collection to serve the public, a selection of books was made for the University of Buda. In 1776, with the consent of Maria Theresa, the monastery and library were taken over by the Piarist Order.
