Index of Economic Freedom and Competitiveness of Selected Countries

This paper focuses on the economic freedom and its relation to the competitiveness in the sense of economic growth possibilities. The analysis is prepared for new members of EU and for Turkey. Structure of this paper is performed according to the FraserInstitute and its "Economic freedom of the world" index. The Index from Heritage Foundation and Index of the World Bank Group are added, too. The main objectives of the paper are to check validity of presumption that higher economic freedom means highercountries competitiveness i.e. increase of economic growth. The new members of EU, which have been accepted since 2004 (EU-12 members) are considered in this paper.Next goal of this paper is to observe changes in the economic freedom between the years1995 and 2005 and its relation to the growth and/or decrease of the competitiveness of those countries. The index of economic freedom of EU-12 and Turkey is also compared with the countries that had the best index of economic freedom in 2006
