    Globalization is a frequently used term nowadays. It is manifested by internationalization of market, market dominance, growing competition and expanding diversification, which is an attempt to eliminate risk in the market. Multinational companies are representatives of globalization. They have a great economic power and their influence over the market is growing. It is not just their economic strength, but also their political influence that can trouble us. Before 1989 the Czech retail market has beenisolated from world trends, the changes that were happening around the world were delayed by many years in the Czech Republic. After 1989, when there was a period of transformation, foreign trade chains entered Czech market. These chains were the ones that brought typical developmental trends, which were occurring in the developed markets since 70`s and 80`s.
