In the caring economies women and men participate equally in the formal labor force and have the same opportunities. The issue of gender equality is closely related to achieve greater women involvement in the workforce whose analysis this paper addresses.The most important indicators and descriptions of women´s work are activity (employment) rate, the number of hours worked, gender segregation and a gender pay gap. In relation to gender equality, the last two issues will be further analysed. This article aims to describe the state of equality between men and women on the EU labour market focusing on decision-making positions (ISCO 1). In this paper the method of description both theoretical approaches and the development of gender equality issues in the European Union is used, the method of analysis of past and current situation together with the comparison method of problems in individual member countries focusing on the Czech Republic are applied as well.
