Labor market of the European Union is seriously affected by the economic crisis since 2008. This economic crisis caused an increase in unemployment in all countries and regions, as well as decrease in the number of vacancies. However, it is quite a heterogeneous process, spreading from region to region (state to state) with different levels of intensity, impal and varying evolution in time. Regional differences within the EU were changed by crisis. The main aim of this contribution is to describe recentchanges in the unemployment rate which were observed among the regions and the EU member states during the economic crisis and puts them into context with selected characteristics, such as real GDP growth, government debt and expediture on labor marketpolicy and research and development. This research was financially supported by the Student Grant Competition SU within the project SGS/7/2012 "The influence of regional disparities on the business environment".
