EU's internal market requires a functioning competition in the European Union. For this reason, shall be prohibited as incompatible with the internal market: all agreements between undertakings which may affect trade between Member States and which haveas their object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition within the internal market and also any abuse to one or more undertakings of a dominant position within the internal market or in a substantial part. The article deals with the violation of competition law in the European Union and the Czech Republic. The European Commission and national competition authorities (in the Czech Republic it is the Office for Protection of Competition, which is central government body) are responsible for the supervision of compliance with the relevant legislation relating to competition law and are authorized (in continuing violation of this legislation) to issue relevant decisions.
