We are currently living in the global market, which is characterized by hyper-competition all over world. This situation is the main reason why it is important to implement some of effective modern methods of management. We assume that using the principles of lean manufacturing is one form of gaining a competitive advantage. This article deals with lean manufacturing principles and its model. We will describe basic principles, metrics and rules for creating lean manufactur-ing knowledge base. The case study deals with creating of knowledge base for supporting implementing the concept of lean manufacturing. Knowledge base will be used for identification wasting in each level of production areas and then will be recommended appropriate methods and toolsof industrial engineering to re-duce this wasting. Knowledge base will be edited in expert system NEST, which is an empty expert system for diagnostic applications based on rules.
