The term of competitiveness includes various interpretations. In this paper one of its concepts - the macroeconomic competitiveness - will be analyzed. This kind of competitiveness is perceived as a process based on productivity growth through the growthof macroeconomic indicators such as standards of living and employment, on a sustainable basis. The macroeconomic growth is measured through indexes, for our purpose the Global Competitiveness Index GCI of the World Economic Forum has been used. It is considered that competitiveness has to be constantly compared with development of competitiveness in other economies or regions. The comparison is performed in order to determine the stage of competitiveness of economies in global economy in order to validate the opinion that the larger the economy, the greater its competitiveness. This method of comparison is used in the article which compares the macro-competitiveness through the GCI Index of selected European economies - the Czech Repu
