The article deals with changes of the immigration policy in Czechoslovakia before Second World War. The paper analyses the approach towards immigrants in the connection with economic and social development. The analysis will be based largely on unpublished archival sources and newspapers. The government implemented various legislative measures that were meant to prevent potential unwelcome consequences of immigration. Their primary goal was to protect domestic labour force. The paper analyses the connection between the immigration and some new trends of social policy in the time of Great Depression.
