This article deals with establishing of extended sectoral structure of the economy in Czech and Slovak Republic in years 1995 - 2012 and comparing them together. Extended sectoral structure is based on traditional three-sector structure enhanced by fourth, quaternary sector. Quaternary sector includes all economic activities and operations touching all intellectual areas of production and providing services which are characterized by their positive impact on production potential, competitiveness and economic growth. This is ensured by extended sectoral structure reflecting changes and impetuses in the economy and society such as formation of knowledge economy and rising importance of innovation, technology and information. Extended sectoral structure complements the analysis of selected six economic sectors in that period of time.
