A Long Trip to Paradise: A Darker Side of the Vietnamese Migration to the Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The chapter is a study of Vietnamese migration to the Czech Republic, its modi operandi and the exploitative tactics developed by various agents involved in the process. As a result of historical contingencies, the European Union's third biggest Vietnamese diaspora - made up of 70 - 80,000 legal and illegal Vietnamese residents - is the one in the Czech Republic. Vietnamese migration to the Czech Republic has been organized by various individuals and organizations offering transfers or specific services related to various stages of the transfer process. They operate on both illegal and legal bases, frequently mixing both legal and illegal activities together. The Vietnamese migrants are exploited, abused or cozened during the transfers. Not only the unofficial agencies and organizations engaged in the smuggling of people, but also the licensed labor agencies are exploiting the Vietnamese people's desire for a better life abroad for the purpose of making bigger profits.
