Roundtable Discussion on the Korean Peninsula
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This closed-door event organized by Rudolf Fürst took place in cooperation with the Korean Embassy. The roundtable discussion focused on the issues related to the Korean peninsula. Rudolf Fürst provided his insights as did the expert from the Republic of Korea, Prof. Dr. Jun Bong-geun, Director General at the Department of Security and Unification Studies at the Korean National Diplomatic Academy’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), a research institute affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The world watched with excitement and anticipation as the historic U.S.-North Korea summit in Singapore unfolded. The summit, together with the inter-Korean summit in April, is widely considered a significant step towards building a stable and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. However, the two summit meetings did not answer all the questions and raised some new questions regarding the Korean peninsula issues. Will and when will denuclearization be achieved? What rewards, including security guarantee, would North Korea receive in return for denuclearization? Also these questions were touched upon.
