Migration from the Southern Perspective: The views from Global and European South
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The Institute of International Relations Prague in cooperation with Heinrich Böll Stiftung and with the support of Think Visegrad organized seminar "Migration from the Southern Perspective: The views from Global and European South" with Ruth Ferrero-Turrión (the Think Visegrad Fellow at the IIR) where she could present her research and discuss her perspective with other speakers such as Ali Nobil Ahmad (Leibnitz Zentrum Moderner Orient). The public in the global North is all too often caught in its own discourses on the drivers and consequences of the global migration. However, there are many reasons to migrate: persecution and war, poverty and hunger, yet also the pursuit of a better life. Migration means – briefly described - the medium or long term spatial change of the centre of one's life. Furthermore, the narratives on migration and perceptions of the issue differ widely also in the so-called North. This event thus sought to highlight the debate on migration in various Souths – be it in Southern Europe or in Pakistan and put them into mutual dialogue.
