Defending NATO Airspace: A Practical Perspective
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The Russian aggression against Ukraine led to an increased amount of attention being paid to the defence of the NATO territory again. Protection of the allied airspace is a natural part of this effort and Czech soldiers have contributed to this goal ever since our entry into the Alliance. Czech pilots patrol the skies above the Baltic states even these days and some of their colleagues are deployed at the NATO command centre in Germany, which is responsible for issuing takeoff orders to our fighter jets in Lithuania. We at the Institute of International Relations deal with these issues thanks to our research on Russian violations of the NATO airspace in the Baltics. And that is also the reason why we would like to present three different perspectives on protecting NATO territory in the air. Matus Halas introduced the outputs of his research on airspace violations and he was joined in his presentation by two members of the Czech Armed Forces from the air base in Caslav and the air operations centre in Germany.
