Global and regional international disaster risk reduction law for the Arctic Ocean in the age of climate change
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Human-made climate change is a global challenge. As the climate changes, the impact on human safety is becoming ever more evident. Often, climate change is seen as a disaster of the future, when large parts of the world will become uninhabitable due to rising temperatures and coastal areas will be lost to rising sea levels. In the Arctic, climate change is already a disaster today. The aim of this chapter is to introduce the reader to the role of international law in the protection of the marine environment of the Arctic Ocean through the lens of disaster risk reduction, not just per se, but in particular in connection with the needs of the people who live in the Arctic. In addition to textual analysis, the authors’ personal experience in the Arctic will be used to illustrate the needs of local communities in the Arctic.
