Míla O’Sullivan contributed to the KonKoop In:Security Report Series 1/2025: Emancipatory Dimensions of In:Security – Strategies of Coping with War Challenges in Ukraine with her analysis titled Feminist Security and Defence in Russia’s War on Ukraine. Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has had a devastating effect on Ukrainian society and unprecedented implications for security in Ukraine, Europe and globally. Approaching security through a feminist lens can further a more holistic understanding of the multiple war-induced insecurities and serve as a normative framework for envisioning and realising emancipatory transformations. Drawing on decolonial feminist approaches, this contribution highlights some of the most pressing insecurities as well as new security issues that emerged with the war in Europe’s East.
