Using Virtual Reality to Prepare Paramedics for Emergencies

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The education of paramedics is aimed at being prepared for normal, but also emergency situations, which will be a great challenge for them in practice in the first years of their career. Authors will present a selected module used for training and subsequent testing of paramedics in virtual reality on the example of an emergency - a traffic accident with six to nine injured people. The environment is situated in the suburbs in the evening. The layout of the accident and the individual injured is such that a space of no more than 3x3 meters is actually needed (one of the conditions for a training room). The evening hours were chosen to simulate degraded visibility conditions, thus creating a more challenging situation for decision making. The module is so far designed for a 2-car accident, but there is room to induce a larger scale accident. The scene itself is supplemented with sounds such as screams and cries of the injured, as well as ambulance and engine sounds. The aim is to create as synergistic an experience as possible, so that users can experience complex situations using this technology and practice their knowledge of how to handle them. These are the introduction of the proband's entry into the initial environment, the introduction of the educational module and the introduction of the testing module. Authors will also present the results of a comparative experiment of a traffic accident scenario using simulation technology and virtual reality with respect to the subjectively perceived burden of the probands - paramedics, stress response and error rate.
