Cílem této studie bylo především představit trestní knihy jako cenný doklad trestněprávní praxe v závěrečném období Rakousko-Uherské monarchie. Navíc doplňují poznatky získané z jiných zdrojů, například matrik a kronik. Všechny tyto dostupné historické prameny jsou ideálním prostředkem ke vědomí sounáležitosti a odpovědnosti za místo, kde žijeme, a proto by měly být předmětem náležité osvěty.

The article presents criminal books as valuable sources of information about the application of criminal law in the final period of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. It is a summary of findings from the following five criminal books: Crime Book of Božkov, Crime Protocol of Bukovec, Sentence Book of Červený Hrádek, Crime Protocol of Lobzy, and Sentence Register of Újezd. The books were kept from 1883 (from 1895 in the case of Bukovec). For the study purposes, records dated until 27 October 1918 were analysed. The criminal records of municipal residents contain the personal data of the offenders (name, surname, year of birth or age, occupation, and the municipality concerned), the identification of the offence, the court that issued the sentence, the sentence number, and the sentence imposed. The majority of the records are offences under Criminal Law No. 117/1852 RGBl., on felonies, misdemeanours and infractions; however, one can also find convictions under other criminal laws such as the law against vagrants and on coercive workplaces, the arms patent, the military criminal law, the law against obstruction of execution and others. The most frequent are offences against property (typically, thefts). Misdemeanour offenders and felony offenders form separate groups. Several recidivists could be identified in each municipality. Most sentences were set below the legal limit. This is notable for felony sentences. According to the locations of the courts that have handed down the relevant sentences, certain migration of offenders can be inferred. A more detailed analysis of the collected information was made in the case of the Criminal Book of Bukovec. Recidivists were identified and references to the most serious crimes were made.
