Political Economy of Marginalization: The Case of Roma/Gypsies in East Central Europe
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The general aim of this dissertation is to present an explanatory scheme for understanding the problem of the enduring marginality of Roma/Gypsies in East Central Europe. The analysis of the internal organisation of excluded Roma communities is supplemented by an analysis of the forces of domination and mechanisms of exclusion originating in the dominant society that contribute to the system of enduring marginality. The problem of enduring marginality results from the historical fact that the Roma/Gypsies have lived on the margins of the dominant social and economic systems (whether feudalism or capitalism) since their emergence in Europe, and from the fact that they have never become an integral part of these systems.
