Images in Rocks as Interplay between Nature and Culture
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The presented project ‘Images in Rocks’ investigates the perception of unusual natural rock features. This case study focuses on inner images triggered by a menhir-shaped rock feature where bronze artefacts and a rock crystal were deposited during the Late or Final Bronze Age. In a survey, one hundred respondents were asked to draw (possible) inner images and to interpret them briefly. The majority of respondents externalised anthropomorphic motifs and interpreted them as people or (imagined) supernatural entities. Despite the great deal of creativity and variation within the gathered assemblage of drawings, several graphical patterns can be identified. Respondents who drew the same pattern may easily agree on their inner images solely on the basis of their own perception. The motifs of the same pattern are not always interpreted the same way, and therefore it is important to gather data on both aspects.
