Az Észak-Csehországi Nemzeti Egység 1885 óta működött Csehország északnyugati, északi és északkeleti részén; nagyon gyorsan növekedett, és nem sokkal az első világháború kitörése előtt taglétszáma meghaladta az ötvenezret. Az egyesület tevékenysége a háború után is folytatódott, mivel az országban uralkodó tényleges viszonyok miatt a nemzeti kérdés még az önálló Csehszlovákia megalakulása után sem tekinthető lezártnak. Csehszlovákia megalakulása után az egyesület tevékenysége a csehországi németek vagyonának (bányák, vasút, ipar stb.) államosítására irányult, majd a földreform idején is serényen tevékenykedett. Az NJS mindvégig támogatta a cseh kisebbséget a túlnyomórészt német területeken, például a helyhatósági választások előtt vagy az első köztársasági népszámlálások idején (1921 és 1930). A cseh nemzetiségű kereskedőket is segítette, kulturális rendezvényeket szervezett, és igen aktív volt a kisebbségi oktatás területén. Ugyanakkor vállalt feladatai a saját sajtó újraindításával bővültek. Még az 1930-as években is tovább gyarapodott a cseh lakosság nemzeti érdekeinek védelmével kapcsolatos munkaprogramja.

The National Unity of North Bohemia (Národní jednota severočeská) had been active in the northwest, north and northeast of Bohemia since 1885; it grew rapidly and its membership was more than fifty thousand shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. The activities of the association continued after the war, as the actual conditions in the country meant that the national question could not be considered closed even after the establishment of the independent Czechoslovakia. After its formation, the activities of the association turned to the nationalisation of the property of Czech Germans (mines, railways, industry, etc.) and the association was also active during the land reform. It continued to support the Czech minority in predominantly German areas, for example before local elections or during the First Republic censuses (in 1921 and 1930). The Jednota also helped tradesmen of Czech ethnicity, organised cultural events and was very active in the field of minority education. At the same time, work tasks were added with the resumption of the publication of its own press. Also, in the 1930s, the work agenda related to the protection of the national interests of the Czech population increased.
