Voluntary Repatriation of Refugees During Conflict: The Case of Ukrainian Refugees After the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The voluntary repatriation of refugees to their country of origin is generally considered the preferred solution to refugee crises. Typically, voluntary repatriation should occur based solely on the refugee's voluntary decision, after the conflict has ended and security has been restored in the country of origin. However, in reality, there are many cases where refugees return to their country of origin while the conflict is still ongoing, a phenomenon known as spontaneous repatriation. This raises questions about the motivation of refugees to return to an unsafe situation. To map these motivations, the concept of pull and push factors is suggested, which represent factors in the host country that motivate refugees to leave (push) and motivational factors in the country of origin that encourage them to return (pull). Since refugees are the driving force behind spontaneous repatriation, it is essential to focus on their perspective and understand why they are willing to return to their country of origin despite the unstable situation. For this reason, the research will be based on interviews with Ukrainian refugees currently residing in the Czech Republic and returnees who have already undergone the repatriation process.
