Die Beitrag analysiert das Naturpotenzial des Gebietes entlang der tschechisch-bayerischen Grenze im Hinblick auf die Entwicklung seiner Nutzung während der Zeitperiode des Eisernen Vorhangs sowie nach Grenzöffnung und dem Beitritt der Tschechischen Republik zur Europäischen Union. Die Entwicklung der Wasserbewirtschaftung des Grenzgebietes wurde durch die politischen Gegebenheiten verhältnismässig gering beeinflusst.

The main objectives of the research are to evaluate the border's influence and function; both from a historical development perspective as well as the current status of the natural potential of the borderland regions. While mountain agricultural landscape with a significant recreational function had been developing on the Bavarian side, the borderland belt on the Czech side was taken care of only at the basest level (e.g. water management).
