Alle Romane Christoph Ransmayrs überprüfen das Konzept des Heldenmythos: Von der eindeutigen Negation in Die Schrecken des Eises und der Finsternis zur behutsamen Befürwortung in Der fliegende Berg. Mit der Umwertung der Figur des (Roman)-Helden entwickelt sich auch das ästhetische Konzept Christoph Ransmayrs, und zwar von der Dystopie zur Utopie. Bei diesem Wandel ist die Abwendung der Erzählinstanz vom Text zu Gunsten des Erzählens von zentraler Bedeutung. Der die mündliche Literatur evozierende Textin Der fliegende Berg wird nicht mehr gebrochen, sondern nimmt die archaische Form eines Epos, ja eines mystischen Romans, an.

All the novels of Christoph Ransmayr work with the myth of the hero: from the radical negation in Die Schrecken des Eises und der Finsternis till a particular acceptance in the novel Der fliegende Berg. With a new creation of the character of the hero develops Christoph Ransmayr a new aesthetic concept: from dystopia to utopy. This change initiates the narrator's movement from the text to the story telling. In this way resembles the text in Der fliegende Berg the oral literature und takes the archaic form of an epos or of a mystic novel.
