Analysis of the level and structure of physical activity and inactivity in adolescents in the Czech Republic in the context of all-day regimen and of the level of motivation to physical activity

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Physical exercise is the fundamental quality of humans which helps keep the organism in balance whether in the physical or mental point of view. Physical activity (PA) and the school regimen are connected inherently. It is just the school regimen that may take considerable part in the overall physical regimen of students and thereby influence their state of health positively. The aim of the study was to analyse the level and structure of physical activity and inactivity in adolescents in the context of all-day regimen and the level of motivation to PA. The research was conducted with the aid of the internet application INDARES (www.indares.com), where the probands completed the IPAQ questionnaire to analyse the level and structure of physical activity and inactivity and the MPAM-R questionnaire of motivation to physical activity. The questionnaire research was attended by 44 secondary school students from 17 to 19 years of age. After data processing, the respondents were divided by sex into groups of 18 boys and 26 girls and, according to the MPAM-R motivation questionnaire, into those who are more (n = 22) and less motivated (n = 22). The results showed that the absolute majority of the adolescents did not meet the exercise recommendations for intensive and medium load, but that the recommendation for walking was met by at least one half of them. The boys fulfilled more MET-min (6658.72) than girls (5660.94) in average per week and the assumption that the more motivated ones fulfil more MET-min per week (6758.82) than the less motivated ones (5379.39) was confirmed. In adolescents, the pros of physical activities and the cons of inactivity and its impacts on the organism should be pointed out, and the students should be motivated to compensate inactivity in their free time. The study result also shows that the meeting of the recommendations to physical activity is insufficient and that the issue of the decreasing level of physical activity in adolescents is still more relevant and requires intensive attention.
