Die Studie befasst sich mit der deutsch geschriebenen Chronik von Bartel Habel (ca. 1550 - nach 1632) aus Karbitz in Nordböhmen, die noch im Stadtarchiv Aussig aufbewahrt wird. Es ist ein außerordentlich umfangreiches Werk mit mehr als vierhundert dicht beschriebenen Seiten, das nicht nur das Leben in Karbitz, sondern auch in der Umgebung, religiöse Verhältnisse, Kriegsgeschehen und Ereignisse aller Art beschreibt. Die Chronik ist der Fachwelt praktisch unbekannt und wird von der zeitgenössischen Literatur sogar als verloren angesehen. Die spätere Ausgabe dieses wichtigen schriftlichen Denkmals behindern nicht nur die zeitlichen und finanziellen Anforderungen eines solchen Unternehmens, sondern auch die schlechte körperliche Verfassung der Chronik, die an vielen Stellen beschädigt wird, oft unwiderruflich.

The study deals with the German written chronicle of Bartel Habel (ca 1550 – after 1632) from Chabařovice in North Bohemia, still preserved in the Ústí Municipal Archives. It is an extraordinarily extensive work, containing more than four hundred densely described pages, describing not only life in Chabařovice, but also in its surroundings, religious conditions, war events, and varieties of all kinds. The chronicle is practically unknown to the professional public, and is even considered lost by contemporary literature. The eventual edition of this important written memorial hampers not only the time and financial demands, but also the poor physical condition of the chronicle, which is damaged in many places, often irrevocably.
