Drei Jahre nach der Niederschlagung des Prager Frühlings im August 1968 ging Libuše Moníková in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Literarisch hat sie jedoch ihre Heimat nieverlassen, die meisten Romane sind als Polemik gegen die Okkupation der Tschechoslowakei durch die sowjetischen Truppen konzipiert. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeichnet zunächstMoníkovás Strategien des ästhetischen Widerstands gegen die „Normalisierung der politischen Verhältnisse“ in den 1970er Jahren nach. Im zweiten Teil geht er auf ihre kritischeDarstellung der posttotalitären Mechanismen nach der Wende von 1989 ein. Zugleich wird der Frage nachgegangen, warum die Autorin noch zehn Jahre nach der Samtenen Revolutionvon der tschechischen Literaturkritik- bzw. Wissenschaft kaum rezipiert wurde.

Three years after the suppression of the Prague Spring in August 1968, Libuše Moníková moved to West Germany. However, she never left her homeland in her writing; most of her novels are conceived as polemicsagainst the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Soviet troops. This article first traces Moníková&apos;s strategies of aesthetic resistance against the ‘normalisation of political conditions’ in the 1970s.The second part examines her critical portrayal of post-totalitarian mechanisms after the fall of communism in 1989. At the same time, it explores the question of why, ten years after the Velvet Revolution, the author was stilllargely ignored by Czech literary critics and academics.
