To model the process of oil expression from plant seeds in a screw-press machine several physical phenomena have to be taken into account like large deformation of porous matrix saturated by fluid (the oil) and the friction between the perforated statorpart and the rotating medium, as well as between the rotor and the medium. The friction is in fact the main force propelling the medium and as such it deserves proper treatment. The large deformation is resolved by a sequence of Biot-like subproblems forsmall displacement increments of the skeleton matrix and the fluid pressure, involving interpolation of the convected quantities (stress) to a fixed reference domain, where the FE integration occurs in the Lagrangian sense. The friction is described bya variational inequality making the time increment problem non-smooth that we solve using the semi-smooth Newton method.
