Determination of velocity of propagation of Lamb waves in aluminium plate using piezoelectric transducers

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Lamb waves (a type of guided waves propagating in infinite plates) attract attention thanks to their potential in structural health monitoring. The main drawback is their multimodal character and dependency of velocity on frequency (dispersion), which complicate its description and interpretation of measured signals. In this work, an aluminum plate was used as an experimental subject. It was equipped with a set of piezoelectric transducers. The velocities of (the lowest) Lamb wave modes were measured by three pairs of sensors collocated always in the direction of propagation of Lamb wave. The measurement was repeated for various frequencies of actuating pulse. The measured data were processed by means of time-frequency analysis. Calculated velocities for selected frequencies were compared to the dispersion curves obtained by combination of finite element model and two-dimensional Fourier Transform. The experimental data were used to set the numerical model.
