Analysis of the Number of People Killed in Fires in the County of South Bohemia in the Period 2001-2010

The aim of this research was to establish, from various points of view, the number of people killed in fires in the county of South Bohemia in the period 2001 - 2010, but in particular those killed in fires in the home. During the research the method used was an analysis of professional publications, legal regulations, websites, and data from the HZS [fire brigade] Statistical Yearbooks for the county of South Bohemia and the MV-GŘ HZS ČR [Home Office Fire Brigade HQ for the Czech Republic] StatisticalYearbooks. This data was compiled and illustrated in graphs and tables while using a method of synthesis and comparison. From the research carried out it is evident that, from the point of view of age categories, most people killed were in the 15-60 agegroup, i.e. at an active age. A comparison of the causes of the fires shows that most people were killed in vehicle fires and fires which arose through the negligence of adults (29%), the most hazardous of which was the use of an open fir
