Epidemiological characteristics of patients with tentamen suicides diagnosis at the psychiatric ward of the hospital in Ceske Budejovice, inc.

The authors present the results of a retrospective descriptive study. The aim of the study was to compare groups of patients treated in the Psychiatric ward of the Hospital in Ceske Budejovice, Inc., in the years 1985 and 2012 with a diagnosis of Tentamen Suicides (TS). The data were compared with the national data published by The Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (IHIS) and the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) in the referred years. The results of the study indicate increased tendency in suicides in the last five years in the Czech Republic (13). The character of TS has changed and currently the demonstrative type of motivation in psychically ill patients who were previously treated dominates. The most common method of TS in the years 1985 and 2012 has remained the same, it was the intentional self-harm by medication with combination of alcohol.
