Importance of conceptual models in clinical and community practice from nurses perspective
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Introduction:Nursing is a culture and, since time immemorial, it has been connected to a number of cognitive and skill-based preconditions that should be an integral part of the personality equipment of each nurse as representative of the nursing profession. The preconditions include primarily the theoretical-philosophical frameworks of nursing or conceptual models whose importance consists primarily in the effort to offer a comprehensive, high-quality, individualized and documentation-based nursing care, considering the individual's actual condition. This article is aimed at presenting the importance of conceptual models in clinical and community practice from the perspective of nurses. Methods:This article presents partial results of the team grant project implemented under financial support of the Grant Agency of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice No. 048/2015/S and called "Use of conceptual models in clinical and community practice." The first part of our research was realised on the base of quantitative methodology by the questionnaire technique with nurses. The second part of study was implemented with the help of the focus group technique with nurses from clinical and community practice, examining a modified version of nursing documentation for selected groups of patient and minorities, considering subjective and objective determinants with impact on the quality of the care provided in clinical and community practice in the Czech Republic. The selected groups include the Roma and Vietnamese national minorities, the Buddhist and Islamic religious minorities, persons 50+ and patients with colorectal carcinoma. Results:The results showed that the use of conceptual models in clinical practice directly depends on the cognitive and skill-based preconditions of the respondents. The nurses lacking the knowledge of the issue in question perceive the conceptual models as complicated frameworks with incomprehensible information. But at the same time, they evaluate positively the area of communication that is very important for minorities and easily utilizable in the model. Conclusion: The results highlight the need of nurses' training in this area, as the conceptual models have broad application both in clinical and in community practice, for both healthy and ill individuals or groups and serve as one of the tools of continuous improvement of quality of the care provided.
