Finality of life in contemporary religious traditions

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Background: As a result of globalization, borders between countries become only imaginary lines on the map. Due to this spontaneous uncontrolled process there is a blending of cultures whose philosophy can be more or less different from that of the majority society. The objective of this paper is to present partial results of the research grant project and to reflect on the finality of life in contemporary religious traditions. Methods: The research was funded with support of the Grant Agency of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice within the team grant project named "The use of conceptual models in clinical and community practice," no. 048/2015 / S. The research was conducted using a qualitative method of semi-structured interviews. The research group was made up of members of selected religious minorities, specifically Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims. The comparative group consisted of people without religious confession. The qualitative research included 10 people from each minority. The data collection was carried out in the period from May to July in 2015. Results: The analysis of the obtained data shows that there may be differences in viewing the finality of life in contemporary religious traditions. Subjective identification with a faith or religion appears to be a significant factor influencing tabooisation of death and dying and reconciliation with one´s own mortality. Although the presented specifics may seem different, they are always influenced by the personality traits and the uniqueness of the person involved that puts the emphasis on the family, health, love, brotherhood of man, peace, humility, dignity or the spiritual way of life, which is a significant contributor to its quality. Conclusion: It should be noted that these are partial results of the qualitative research and therefore they cannot be generalized to all contemporary religious groups. Valid results are expected from the quantitative survey which is being carried out currently by the team of researchers.
