Study on the Impact of Breastfeeding to Cognitive Functions in 5 Years Old Children
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Two groups of five-year-old children born in the polluted Karvina district and the control district of eské Budejovice were researched to determine the effect of breastfeeding on cognitive development. The children were born in the years 2013 and 2014. From mothers' surveys, information about nursing was gathered. Psychological and cognitive assessments were conducted using the Raven Colored Progressive Matrices (RCPM) and the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test (BG test). Mothers engaged in the study provided us with information regarding social environment of the family, breastfeeding and eating habits, and child´s medical history. The findings point to a beneficial impact of breastfeeding for six months or longer on cognitive development in five-year-old children. When compared to the findings of the RCPM exam, which measures problem-solving abilities, this effect was more significant in the BG test results, which focused on visual-motor abilities.
