The supposed fixed word order of some types of impersonal constructions in Spanish allows variants, detectable both in Modern and Old Spanish. These variations are usually not considered, within generative frameworks, as a result of free commutation butas derivations. The aim of the contribution is (i) to show word order variations of some impersonal (non-nominative) constructions in Old Spanish (namely of the verb haber, in the corpus of texts dated up to 1300), (ii) to explain the ordering variationas allowed and restricted the on grammatical level of the utterances. The description and argumentation follows the Chomskian generative approach. The contribution presents partial results of a project funded by GA AV ČR.
