The study discusses the intellectual foundations and activities of the Estates opposition at the age of Maria Theresa's and Josephine reforms. It argues that the Estates proceeded from the same principles of natural law, as the enlightened monarch did. In the end, it reconstruct the constitutional ideas of the Estates movement of 1790.
