Elisabeth Reichart geht in allen ihren Büchern der Frage nach, inwieweit die Geschichte die Gegenwart prägt beziehungsweise welche schlimmen Folgen es im privaten sowie im gesellschaftlichen Bereich hat, wenn die verhängnisvolle - nazistische oder kommunistische - Vergangenheit nicht aufgearbeitet wird. In ihrem ,tschechischen' Roman Das Haus der sterbenden Männer macht sich die traumatische Erfahrung mit der kommunistischen Staatssicherheit als Lücke im Gedächtnis der Hauptfigur und zugleich in ihrer Geschichte und somit auch im Text manifest.

In her ,Czech' novel Das Haus der sterbenden Männer the traumatic experience with the communistic state policy is depicted both as a gap in the memory of the protagonist and therefore in her story and also in the text.
