The study places the Velislav Bible Antichrist cycle within the development of the medieval pictorial cycles and explores its iconographic innovations. It elucidates the narrative structure and visual emphases of the story in order to find out the functions of the legend and which audience it was primarily directed at. It also explores how different social orders are distinguished in the narrative encouraging a sense of belonging to an intellectual community.
