While research into workplace and institutional discourse often has the potential to inform and improve organisational practice, the levels of research utilisation are generally very low. A similar paradigm is well-known from studies into medical care and doctor-patient interactions (e.g., Lomas,1997; Sterling and Weisner,2006; Green et. al. 2009). That is, research alone and its dissemination are no guarantee of utilisation and of influencing future professional conduct. Drawing on a study into decision-making of work teams, this paper addresses the knowledge-to-practice gap and stresses the need of translating the research findings to the business organisation. It discusses the elements necessary to the collaborative working between the researcher and the host organisation. It is argued that in order for the research to result into any practical outcomes, the protocol for communicating the research findings back to the target organisation, and their embedding into organisational practice, needs to be agreed at the outset. An approach facilitating the transfer of knowledge from the researcher to the organisation is proposed.
