Übersetzung des Buches aus dem Tschechischen ins Deutsche, Autor der tschechischen Originalversion Miroslav Šepták. Der vorliegende Band behandelt die innen- und außenpolitische Entwicklung Österreichs in den Jahren 1931–1934. Die wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Probleme der Zeit sowie der Druck aus Italien und Deutschland verstärkten deutlich die bereits vorhandenen antidemokratischen Tendenzen und trugen zum Niedergang der österreichischen Demokratie bei. Die wiederholten Versuche Deutschlands, die Souveränität des Nachbarlandes einzuschränken, bewirkten außenpolitisch letztendlich die Abwehr von einer Politik der Balance gegenüber den Großmächten und die Hinwendung zur engeren Kooperation mit Italien. Die österreichischen und deutschen Nationalsozialisten sahen eine Lösung für die Überwindung dieser Entfremdung der beiden deutschen Länder nur noch in einem bewaffneten Umsturz. Ein dilettantisch vorbereiteter Putsch, bei dem Bundeskanzler Engelbert Dollfuß ums Leben kam, schadete dem Ruf Deutschlands im Ausland und offenbarte den rechtswidrigen Charakter des Nationalsozialismus.

Translation of the book from Czech into German, author of the original Czech version Miroslav Šepták. The aim of the book is the analysis of the Austrian foreign political development in the years 1931-1934 with the emphasis on the general development of the international relations. Furthermore, the selected intra-political events and the economic and social development of Austria will not be omitted as well. The contemporary economic and social problems as well as exerting pressure of Germany and Italy on Austria increased the long-term anti-democratic tendencies and contributed to collapse of the parliamentary democracy in Austria. Germany itself posed the requirements which would considerably restrict the sovereignty of the Alpine republic. The Austrian Nazis, supported by the German party-men, saw the solution of the stalemate in the armed complot. The amateurishly planned coup d&apos;état, during which Engelbert Dollfuss was assassinated, discredited Germany abroad and plainly revealed the criminal substance of Nazism for the first time.
