Die vorliegende Monografie befasst sich mit der diskursiven Konstruktion räumlicher Wirklichkeit, dargestellt am konkreten Beispiel eines grenzüberschreitenden nachbarschaftlichen Raumes, wie sie sich seit einigen Jahrzehnten im Kontext der europäischen Integration etablieren. Die Arbeit geht mit Berger/Luckmann und der neueren Wissenssoziologie (Keller, Knoblauch) davon aus, dass jede Wirklichkeit letztendlich gesellschaftlich konstruiert wird und folgt Werlen und der handlungszentrierten Sozialgeographie in der Annahme, dass auch (Lebens-)Räume keine festen Gegebenheiten sind, sondern durch Praktiken handelnder Subjekte („alltägliche Regionalisierung“) begründet werden. Im Zuge des sog. Linguistic Turn (Rorty) wird dann der mittlerweile konsensuell gewordenen Erkenntnis Rechnung getragen, dass vor allem die Sprache als Hauptinstrument im Prozess der Etablierung von Wirklichkeit durch Produktion und Reproduktion von Wissensordnungen zu sehen ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund und an einem konkreten Beispiel (Bayern-Böhmen) versucht die vorliegende Arbeit nachzuvollziehen, wie ein neues räumliches Wissen diskursiv entsteht und vermittelt wird. Die linguistische Diskursanalyse bietet hierzu ein geeignetes Instrumentarium: Untersucht werden auf der lexikalischen Ebene vor allem die wortstrategischen Operationen des Umdeutens und Umwertens (Klein) sowie diskursprägende Schlagwörter, auf der metaphorischen Ebene einige Quellbereiche von herausstechenden konzeptuellen Metaphern (Lakoff/Johnson) und auf der argumentativen Ebene Topoi im Sinne zumeist metaphorisch vermittelter Argumentationsmuster. Die Grundstruktur des Bayern-Böhmen-Diskurses wird mit Hilfe von diskursiven Grundfiguren erfasst, die so etwas wie „Hauptkoordinaten“ eines bestimmten Wissens über den Grenzraum darstellen.

The present monograph deals with the discursive construction of spatial reality, illustrated by the concrete example of a cross-border neighbourhood space, as they have been established in the context of European integration for several decades. Based on Berger/Luckmann and the more recent sociology of knowledge (Keller, Knoblauch), the work assumes that every reality is ultimately constructed socially and follows Werlen and the action-centred social geography in the supposition that (living) spaces are not fixed conditions either, but are founded by practices of acting subjects (&quot;everyday regionalisation&quot;). In the course of the so-called Linguistic Turn (Rorty), account is then taken of the realization, which has meanwhile become consensual, that language, above all, is to be seen as the main instrument in the process of establishing reality through the production and reproduction of knowledge orders. Against this background and using a concrete example (Bavaria-Bohemia), this thesis attempts to understand how a new spatial knowledge is discursively created and communicated. The linguistic discourse analysis offers a suitable instrument for this purpose: On the lexical level, the word-strategic operations of reinterpreting and revaluing (Klein) as well as discourse-forming keywords are examined. On the metaphorical level, some source areas of outstanding conceptual metaphors (Lakoff/Johnson) and on the argumentative level topoi in the sense of mostly metaphorically conveyed argumentation patterns are explored. The basic structure of the Bavaria-Bohemia discourse is captured with the help of discursive basic figures, which represent something like &quot;main coordinates&quot; of a certain knowledge about the border area.
