The article deals with structure of local municipalities and dependency between the selected socio-economic indicators (e.g. population development, economic activity, number of commuters, scholarship index, unemployment rate, structure of the populationaccording to the sectors of the national economy) and the size of a community. The criterions for determination of the local municipalities were compared and their analysis showed the criterion of the number of inhabitants as more suitable. The analysisshows that some indicators in municipalities smaller than 200 inhabitants reach unfavourable values (especially the indicator of population development, economic activity, average age, number of commuters and scholarship index) and these values improveas the number of inhabitants grows. At the same time, strong dependencies between some indicators and the real size of a municipality were demonstrated.
