Changes in the species composition and vegetation structure of species-poor grasslands after restoration of a mowing regime
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This study aimed to evaluate whether the imposition of mowing would increase the species richness in abandoned meadows in central Europe, where degraded meadows had developed into dominant stands of Carex brizoides and Molinia caerulea. We studied the influence of mowing once a year in July on species composition, number of species, Shannon-Wiener index, abundance of dominant species, total biomass of the stands, biomass of the dominant species, biomass of individual species, and biomass of horizontal 10-cm layers of stands between 1998 and 2007. Molinia caerulea stands showed statistically significant changes in species composition, an increase in the number of species and a decrease in the abundance of dominant species. The total biomass of the stands was not influenced by mowing, but there was a significant decrease in the dominant Molinia caerulea biomass. The total height of the stands was influenced rather by year than by mowing. However, mowing only once a year, but at the peak
