Aufgrund der Analyse des Schlussdokuments der Plenarsynode der katholischen Kirche der Tschechischen Republik beschreibt der Verfasser die pastorale Lage der römisch-katholischen Kirche in Tschechien am Anfang des dritten Jahrtausends. Der Autor schildert die Selbstwahrnehmung der tschechischen Kirche, die durch ihre Vergangenheit stark geprägt wird. Die soziale Diskriminierung der aktiven Christen unter dem vergangenen (kommunistischen) Regime sowie das allgemeine Misstrauen der Öffentlichkeit den Kirchen gegenüber war eine Ursache dafür, dass viele tschechische Katholiken eine Diaspora-Mentalität angenommen haben; dabei blieb die Gesamtorientierung der tschechischen Kirche eher traditionell. Im Artikel werden verschiedene Strategien für die Lösung dieser Probleme präsentiert, die bereits in der tschechischen katholischen Kirche entwickelt worden sind.

Based on the analysis of the final document of the Plenary Synod of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic, the author describes the pastoral situation of the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic at the beginn of the thirth millennium. The author focuses on the self-concept of the Czech Church, which is strongly influenced by the past. The ostracization of active believers under the past regime and the general public's mistrust of the Church led to the fact that many Czech Catholics accepted the mentality of the diaspora, but the overall direction of the Church remained traditional. The article also presents various strategies that the Czech Catholic Church is developing to address current issues.
