Auf der mehr generellen Ebene – und aus der epistemologischen Sicht – folgt die Studie der Frage nach der Beziehung der neuzeitlichen Theologie der Schöpfung zu der sich damals gerade etablierenden Naturwissenschaft, bzw. nach der Beziehung zwischen Konzeption von Geschöpflichkeit und Konzeption von Welt als Natur in der Periode der frühen Neuzeit. Die Art und Weise dieser hermeneutischen Korrespondenz wird auf der mehr konkreten Ebene am Beispiel zweier, die Problematik der Schöpfung, bzw. der Natur betreffenden Denkansätzen analysiert: nämlich des lutheranischen theologischen Denkers Samuel Fabricius (1577–1625) und des tief gläubigen Kalvinisten und zugleich enthusiasten Naturwissenschaftlers und Forschers Jan Swammerdam (1637–1680). Wie verschieden auch ihre Naturauffassungen sind, sie können übereinstimmend in das semantische Feld der sogenannten Physikotheologie eingesetzt werden, die als eine Denkfigur zu deuten ist, für die in der relevanten Periode markante thematische Durchdringungen zwischen Theologie der Schöpfung und Naturwissenschaft zu konstatieren sind. Die Methode einer Konfrontation mit den charakteristischen Zeichen der physikotheologischen Denkweise soll den Sachverhalt der Autoransätzen in Bezug auf die gefolgte epistemologische Textlinie zu verstehen ermöglichen. So kann ein Teilschluß bezüglich der Art der gegenseitigen Beziehung beider Diskurse aufgestellt werden.

On the more general level – and from an epistemological point of view – the study examines the question of Early Modern Theology of Creation’s relationship towards the then emerging Natural Science, in other words the issue of how the concept of Creation relates to the concept of world as Nature in the Early Modern period. On the more specific level, the essence of this hermeneutic correspondence is analysed against the example of two intellectual approaches concerning the problem of Creation, respectively Nature: of the Lutheran theological thinker Samuel Fabricius (1577–1625), and of the profound Calvinist believer and at the same time passionate natural scientist and scholar Johann Swammerdam (1637–1680). However different their interpretation of Nature, they can be congruously set into the semantic field of so-called physico-theology as figures of thought, displaying a significant thematical interconnectedness between Theology of Creation and Natural Science at that time. The confrontation with characteristic symbols of physico-theological thinking enables us to understand the essence of the authors‘ approaches regarding the epistemological thread of the text and to draw a conclusion about the mutual relatedness of both discourses under consideration.
